The History of Mike's Market
and Casey's Market
The founding father and patriarch of what is known today as Casey’s & Mike’s Market is Mike
Casey.  Mr. Casey began the business in April of 1969 as a joint partnership between Mr.
Casey, and his brother-in-law, Mike Kelly.  The original corporate name was registered with
the state as Mikes’ Meat Market (plural, not singular to reflect the two Mike’s ownership!).
After a short term partnership of eighteen months, Mike Kelly left to open up a shop in Park
Ridge that was much closer to home. This left Mike Casey as sole proprietor, and a staff of
four which included his son Dan, who decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. Then in
1974, at the age of thirteen, son David began working in the family trade as well.
In the fall of 1980, there was an opportunity to take over a bankrupt butcher shop in Western
Springs, Brinker’s. At this time Mike Casey took son Dan on as a partner, and son David
decided to make a career out of the business too. Dan helped established this new store with
a great deal of support from the owners of the Western Springs Fruit Store, Al Enzbiglis and
Bob Yurchak. From 1980 to 1997 the Western Springs location thrived and had outgrown the
location, so it was time to expand.  In May of 1997 Casey’s Market expanded to twice its size
and has continued to grow every year.
In 1990, the Casey family took over another bankrupt independent business, Colony Foods of
Naperville, with David joining as a partner. David proceeded to operate the Western Springs
facility, with Dan running the new entity, Casey’s Colony Foods. Shortly thereafter, Mike
decided to retire and sell out his controlling interest to David and Dan, who remained partners
until December 31st, 2004.
Today David is the proud and sole owner of Casey’s Market of Western Springs, and Mike’s
Market of Villa Park  and under his leadership we relocated Mike’s Market to a bigger and
better location in Villa Park and will continue to grow Casey’s and Mike’s Markets.
